Summer Soul Searching

July 14, 2016

What's your soul telling you lately?  Take time to ask, and time to listen...

How often do you stop and contemplate how you're really feeling, what your life is about, what you are really desiring in your inner and outer life, what your heart and soul are trying to tell you but doesn't often get through with all the busyness of life and challenges of every magnitude all around?

I encourage you to get pen and paper (no computers, as this experience needs to be more visceral which handwriting provides), find your most favorite spot outside, get a beverage of choice, and write answers to the following questions and contemplations.  Don't censor thoughts and feelings that arise, just allow whatever flows out as your soul does have a lot of information that will help you live the life you really want to.

  • Get quiet, close your eyes, spend a few minutes deep breathing and relaxing.
  • If a question is really uncomfortable, that's where to spend your time.
  • If a question brings you great joy, that's also where to spend your time.
  • You might not want to answer every question. Do what feels right for you.
  • Think about how you would have answered these questions at 10, at 20, at 30... or how you would like to answer at 70, or 80, or 90 (as they may or may not apply).
  • Search for themes and the areas that come up the most for you. What do these things tell you about yourself?
  • Celebrate all that you uncover as it's all important.
  • Mostly, relax and enjoy this.  Your heart and soul will be grateful, and this will help you and stay with you more than you can imagine.

  1. When was the last time I experienced unbridled excitement, pure joy, or was so focused on what I was doing that I lost track of time?
  2. What bad habits or limiting beliefs do I carry around?
  3. Do I have activities in my life that leave me fulfilled and energized?  If not, what needs to change?
  4. Are my relationships healthy and meaningful?  What could I do differently to make them better?
  5. As a child, what did I dream of being when I grew up?
  6. What things have I always wanted to do, but was afraid to try?
  7. What do I do or have I done in my life that makes me the happiest?
  8. What movies, music, and books have inspired me over the years and why?
  9. Do I live in, operate from, my integrity with consistency?  (With others, with myself?)  Why or why not?
  10. Am I taking care of my body and health in the ways I know are best for me? What could I do differently to make it better?
  11. Am I taking care of my finances in the ways I know are best for me?  What could I do differently to make it better?
  12. If I had unlimited money, didn't have to work or grow my money ever, what would I do with my life?
  13. If I was suddenly homeless, with no money, what would I do?
  14. What part of my life am I the least satisfied with?  What could I do differently to make it better?
  15. What are my core values and beliefs?
  16. Who are my heroes/heroines and why do I admire them?
  17. What do I value most about myself?
  18. What stands between me and happiness?
  19. What do I want most?
  20. What do I want my legacy to be?

Share your thoughts with the person or people closest to you.  If some uncomfortable things came up, get support from a trusted person in your life.  If some clarity arose and you are excited about making some changes, keep writing, envisioning big and small steps to help you get there.

If you found this helpful and would like to continue the conversation with me, I would be honored to help you with your soul's contemplations and how to take steps to make real the revelations that come from it!
